Homemade Spaghetti Marinara Sauce Recipe

What you’ll need:

  • ½ cup vegetable or canola oil

  • 18 oz tomato paste

  • 12 cups tomatoes, peeled, drained, and chopped

  • 2 cups white or yellow onions, chopped

  • 1 cup green bell pepper, chopped

  • 1 cup red bell pepper, chopped

  • ¼ to ½ cup granulated or brown sugar

  • 3 tbsp salt

  • 2 tbsp minced garlic

  • 1 ½ tbsp dried oregano

  • 1 ½ tbsp dried basil

  • 1 ½ tsp dried parsley

  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 bay leaf

  • ½ cup lemon juice

 

Instructions:

  • Firstly, mix all ingredients except lemon juice into the pot. Bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 1 hour. Discard bay leaf.

  • Transfer the sauce to the blender and blend until smooth.

  • Add 2 tbsp lemon juice into the hot and sterilized jars. Add spaghetti sauce over it. Wipe the rim of each jar with a clean and moist towel. Place a lid over it tightly.

  • Add water into the water bath canner and bring to a boil. Place jars into the water bath canner and bring to a boil. Add more boiled water if required.

  • Cover the water bath canner and process for 40 minutes.

  • Remove the jars from the water bath canner. Let cool it. Make sure that the seal is tight.
