Calling all grill masters and barbecue enthusiasts! Take your grilling game to the next level with this delicious and versatile Smoke Cherry BBQ Sauce. This recipe boasts a perfect balance of sweet and smoky flavors, making it an ideal companion for any grilled meats or vegetables.

Prep time: 1 hr

Cook time: 45 min

Serving: 5 jars

What you’ll need:

  • 3lbs sweet cherries
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¾ cup honey
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1-2 tsp cayenne powder

Instructions:

  • Rinse and pit cherries. Transfer them to the pot. Add garlic and onion and add them to the pot. Add remaining ingredients and stir well.
  • Boil for 15 minutes over medium-low heat. Remove the lid and cook for 20 to 25 minutes until thickened.
  • Transfer the mixture to the food processor and pulse until smooth.
  • Return to low heat and cook for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Pour the sauce into hot jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Attach lids and rings. Process for 5 minutes in a boiling-water canner.
  • Remove the jars to a towel-lined surface to cool without moving for 24 hours.
  • Store in a cool, dark place for 1 to 1 1/2 years.

Helpful Tips:

  • While sweet cherries are recommended, feel free to experiment with different varieties like tart cherries or a blend of both.
  • Want an extra kick? Add a chipotle pepper or a few drops of your favorite hot sauce for a smoky and spicy flavor.
  • If your sauce seems too thin after simmering, add a cornstarch slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water) and cook until desired consistency is reached.
  • Don't have liquid smoke? Hickory or cherry wood chips can be added to your grill for a smoky infusion while simmering the sauce.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Brush Smoke Cherry BBQ Sauce on chicken, ribs, or salmon during the last few minutes of grilling for a caramelized and flavorful glaze.
  • This sauce goes perfectly with grilled vegetables, chicken wings, or even roasted potatoes.
  • Elevate your next burger by adding a dollop of Smoke Cherry BBQ Sauce for a sweet and tangy twist.
