Churro Apple Pie

Ingredients:

Apple Filling:

  • 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

    Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • Churro Topping: ½ cup unsalted butter ¼ tsp salt

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 375° F.

  • Grease a pie dish and set aside.

  • Add the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract to a bowl and mix well.

  • Toss until coated.

  • Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie dish.

  • Add butter to the saucepan and heat it.

  • Add salt and water and boil it. Lower the heat.

  • Add all-purpose flour and stir well.

  • Remove the dough from the heat.

  • Allow it to cool for 5 minutes.

  • Add eggs one at a time and beat well.

  • Then, add vanilla extract and stir well.

  • Transfer the churro dough to a Churro Maker with churro tip.

  • Press strips of dough across the top of the apple filling. Place it into the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

  • Prepare the cinnamon sugar coating: Add the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a bowl and mix well.

  • Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool.

  • Coat the churro topping with cinnamon mixture.

  • Serve the Churro apple pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
